Empowerment through training and capacity building

Ministry goes beyond spreading the gospel; it involves transforming lives through empowerment. An inspiring example was shared about a young man with a disability who discovered empowerment by crafting wooden crosses for baptism ceremonies, which provided him with a sustainable livelihood. This story underscored the significance of innovative approaches in missions, challenging conventional practices and embracing strategies that create meaningful and sustainable change.

Beyond ministerial learning, training and capacity building play a vital role in empowering communities. An attendee shared a personal experience of preaching to youth and realizing that, in addition to spiritual guidance, they needed mentorship and an avenue to validate their entrepreneurial ideas. Mentorship plays a vital role in guiding young individuals to develop their skills, explore their passions and address societal challenges through entrepreneurship. It nurtures an entrepreneurial mind set, fostering critical thinking, innovation and calculated risk-taking. Despite limited resources, young individuals possess great potential to create a significant impact.

The establishment of the Peace and Justice Commission at St. John Riruta further demonstrates the transformative impact of training and capacity building. Through empowerment and equipping individuals in the community with essential skills, they were able to assume roles as commissioners and leaders, actively promoting peace and justice within their community. Their continued efforts in promoting peace and justice thereby created positive change within their community.

To empower vulnerable communities, CASE should prioritize the development of training programs that focus on capacity building. This includes providing financial literacy and promoting self-reliance. These initiatives should be inclusive, ensuring active participation from the community members they aim to serve. By providing training and building capacity, CASE can effectively empower communities, fostering sustainable development and transformation.
